Published in Paperback by Penguin USA (Paper) (March, 1995)
Author: Mary Blocksma
Average review score:

A wonderful road trip, with adventure and painless learning.
Reading Fourth Coast was like taking the trip, with anticipation for every new day and experience Ms. Blocksma related. I learned a lot and eagerly anticipated each daily adventure. When the trip was over, I put down my book and cried, so sorry I was to have it end. Read it.

Francis Bacon
Published in Hardcover by Thames & Hudson (November, 1989)
Authors: Lawrence Gowing, Sam Hunter, Lowrence Gowing, and Museum Of Modern Art
Average review score:

Seek this Bacon volume!
This book on Francis Bacon is out of print but the good people at Amazon.com can help you find it. And if you love Francis Bacon then this book is a MUST for your library. Well written and gorgeous to view, this book more than most shows the less known works of the British genius of psychologically laden painting. The handsome book was a catalogue for the Smithsonian Institution exhibition in 1989 and 1990, before Bacon died. As for a collection of the master's best, look no further.

The magic modern german art.
I found in Amazon this great book, of one of the most important painters that headed the modern art in painting in germany. It is very difficult to find books from this artist, part of the Blue Rider Grup (Der Blaue Reiter). So it is great that amazon provided us with such a treasure.

Free Software, Free Society: Selected Essays of Richard M. Stallman
Published in Hardcover by Free Software Foundation (01 October, 2002)
Authors: Richard M. Stallman, Lawrence Lessig, and Joshua Gay
Average review score:

Nice Explanations
The editor wrote a short forward explaining all the computer concepts the reader will need in order to understand the book. In addition, there are footnotes throughout the book explaining obscure people and computer terms. This way even a sociology major like myself can understand everything.

Stallman talks about important issues that are currently being played out in Washington DC. This book is a great way to help make sense of it all.

Freedom from Backaches
Published in Hardcover by Simon & Schuster (November, 1973)
Author: Lawrence W. Friedmann
Average review score:

Freedom From Backaches
I can't believe this book is out of print. It is the best results-oriented book I've ever read on how to analyze your current back problem and, in addition, what exercises will improve your current condition. Written by two physicians with incredible experience and the right approach to the problem most people have with their backs. Basically the back's problem are related to the skeletal system and the muscles that support it. Without the proper strength and flexibility in the muscular system you will be exposing yourself to incredible life-long problems.

Why? The human skeleton in itself would fall down in a pile of bones without the strength of the muscular system. More importantly, the skeletal system could not function properly without a high degree of flexibilty in this system. So, when you let your muscular system get out of shape and you don't do anything (yoga, stretching or warming-up)to increase its flexibility every vertabre, joint and organ is headed for trouble once you put any stress on it or are involved in any type of accident.

Perhaps this is common sense now. But, when this book was first published it was a tremendous success. Now it should be taken and republished or a website should be developed around it. Millions of people are being taken for a ride by bad advice from physicians and chiropractors who just prescribe drugs, surgery or treatments when most of their problems could be solved through simple stretching and strengthening exercises.

The French Rival ("Beverly Hills 90210" Novels)
Published in Paperback by Pan Macmillan (30 November, 1991)
Author: Lawrence Crown
Average review score:

NOT Based on an actual episode!
This is a great book to read if you want something fresh and new from the show. It takes place during the high school years and is NOT based on an actual 90210 episode (much like "Fantasies"). It's a GREAT read if you are a Dylan/Brenda fan like me! The book is hard to find, but I have seen it on eBay many times. Well worth the search!

Fresh Bread Companion
Published in Paperback by Brick Tower Pr (October, 2000)
Authors: Liz Clark, Lisa Adams, and Jane Lawrence
Average review score:

IT'S LIKE EATING A MEMORY
FRESH BREAD COMPANION was written to capture a place, a time and a feeling. As I tried each bread I felt as if Liz Clark was my companion. As I tasted each one I thought of a place, time and feeling of memory. When my niece tasted the Prune and Almond Whole Wheat Bread, her statement was, "This is like eating a memory." "This smells, tastes, and feels like Granny's bread." Although the recipes reflect current local tastes and European rather than standard fare from the good old days, it is that essence of "Home" as a dynamic place of warmth in memory thatis conveyed to the reader. The book arrived recently and had my mouth watering. I wanted to rush into the kitchen and fire up the oven after reading through recipes like Sour Dough French, Rustic Baguettes, Cracked Wheat, and Olive and Walnut. Now that I have tried them I hope to be Liz Clark's companion through other cookbooks.

From Aztec to High Tech: Architecture and Landscape Across the Mexico-United States Border (Creating the North American Landscape)
Published in Hardcover by UC Regents (April, 1999)
Author: Lawrence A. Herzog
Average review score:

Excellent!
(From Planeta.com Journal) - Subtitled "Architecture and Landscape across the Mexico-United States Border, this book is tour-de-force that gives visual explanations of the great changes at the heart of the US/Mexico Borderlands. The book is expertly illustrated with maps and black-and-white photos, but the majority is space has been crafted by the author. It's a wonderful medley of observations, historical anecdotes and interviews with the architects themselves. Highly recommended.

From Modernism to Postmodernism: An Anthology
Published in Hardcover by Blackwell Publishers (December, 1995)
Author: Lawrence E. Cahoone
Average review score:

A diverse introduction
Even if one is only marginally interested in postmodernism, this book is nonetheless valuable. It reprints substantial excerpts from writings that put forth numerous important ideas, from Descartes to "The Cartesian Masculinization of Thought." It should not be mistaken for an introduction to modern philosophy, however, because it is strictly Continental and (obviously) postmodern. Still highly recommended.
